Assistant Director of Nursing
(Infection Prevention & Control)

The post-holder is professionally accountable to the Director of Nursing of Mercy University Hospital.
The post holder will work closely with consultant microbiologist and IPC team as well liaising with the wider nursing/medical/health and social care professional teams. The post holder will have responsibility for the IPC Nursing Team
Responsibilities - The post holder will be responsible for;
- The Director of Nursing 1, Assistant (Infection Prevention & Control) is responsible for providing strong strategic, clinical and professional leadership for all aspects of Infection prevention & Control in the context of working within a Multidisciplinary team across the Mercy University Hospital Campus
- The Director of Nursing 1, Assistant (Infection Prevention & Control) will lead and co-ordinate the development and delivery of the Infection Prevention and Control service, compatible with modern standards and in line with the Antimicrobial Resistance and Infection Control (AMRIC) programme HSE action plan 2020-2025.
- The Director of Nursing 1, Assistant (Infection Prevention & Control) has a pivotal role in service planning and development, co-ordinating and managing activity and resources within the Infection Prevention and Control service.
- The post holder will provide professional / clinical leadership and expertise in the area of Infection Prevention and Control.
- The post holder will facilitate effective communication and professional relationships with Laboratory Services, AMRIC Teams, Occupational Health, Facilities/Estates Management, Public Health, Dept of Health
- The post holder will lead out on the roll out of a Surgical Site Surveillance programme in MUH, including the development and implementation of appropriate Policy, Procedures and Guidelines (PPPG), education and audit.
Eligibility Criteria:
(a) Eligible applicants will be those who on the closing date for the competition:
(i) Are registered, or are eligible for registration, in the General Nurse Division, and other divisions as relevant to the specific service, of the Register of Nurses and Midwives, as appropriate, maintained by the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Ireland [NMBI] (Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann).
And
(ii) Have 7 years post registration nursing experience and 3 years nursing management experience at a minimum of Clinical Nurse Manager 2 (CNM 2) in an acute setting.
And
(iii) Have successfully completed a post registration programme of study, as certified by the education provider, which verifies that the applicant has achieved a National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) major academic Level 8 or higher award maintained by Quality & Qualifications of Ireland (QQI) or can provide written evidence from the Higher Education Institute that they have achieved the number of ECTS credits equivalent to a Level 8 or higher standard in a health care or management related area.
And
(b) Candidates must possess the requisite clinical, leadership, managerial and administrative knowledge and ability for the proper discharge of the duties of the office
Please note that appointment to and continuation in posts that require statutory registration is dependent upon the post holder maintaining annual registration in the relevant division of the register maintained by Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann (Nursing Midwifery Board Ireland)
