Realtime Recruitment has partnered with a global client that provides the best-in-class payment processing solutions to industry leaders! This client is looking to bring in a Senior SQL Database Administrator that will work alongside the DBA Manager in maintaining the databases performance, integrity and security. You will also work alongside various production teams assisting in the building & deployment of solution upgrades. This is a fully remote, full time position however, candidates are required to be located in Ireland. Responsibilities and Duties Collaborate closely with engineering teams to create and maintain logical/physical database designs in support of both new and existing application development efforts. Keep data models up-to-date. Craft and implement schema designs, indexes, SQL queries, and stored procedures. Manage database specifications, maintain a data dictionary, adhere to design and coding standards, and document your work thoroughly. Tackle problem-solving and root cause analysis, offering recommendations and implementing preventive measures as needed. Examine SQL query plans and utilize diagnostic tools to identify and address performance bottlenecks, taking corrective actions to enhance efficiency. Assess the advantages of available system upgrades and enhancements and implement them when deemed beneficial. Construct High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) systems using technologies such as Failover Clustered instances, Availability Groups, Multi-site clusters, and Replication across geographically diverse data centers. Dedicate yourself to achieving an impressive 99.999% uptime for all OLTP production databases. Collaborate with engineering teams and Technical Operations to review and prepare database deployments. Ensure that all database servers are backed up in alignment with the business's Recovery Point Objectives (RPO). Conduct backup testing to verify our ability to meet the business's Recovery Time Objectives (RTO). Provide hands-on involvement in design, development, and code review processes. Possess in-depth knowledge of SQL Server architecture, including the engine, query processing, query optimization, and locking mechanisms. Qualifications 7+ years of experience in SQL Engineering/Administration, with a strong focus on SQL Server 2012 or newer. The majority of your experience should be related to supporting 24x7 OLTP and data warehouse/BI environments. Proficiency in SQL Server architecture, encompassing the engine, query processing, query optimization, and locking mechanisms. Experience in automating the execution and notification of database-related processes and alerts. Expertise in configuring MS SQL for high availability and Disaster Recovery using technologies like SQL Clustering and Always On Availability Groups. Familiarity with scripting languages such as PowerShell, VBScript, and T-SQL. Knowledge of storage systems and SQL replication technologies is advantageous. Some experience with security and encryption is desirable. Possession of MCSA/MCSE certifications is a plus. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
