Datacenter Design Subject Matter Expert will manage, review, coordinate and provide key technical input during detailed design and/or construction administration phases of a datacenter project. This position will collaborate and manage internal and external resources for the delivery of discipline specific systems aligning with Microsoft and site-specific requirements.
The candidate must also be able to work with other technical and non-technical groups in a fast-paced environment and do so with an even temperament. The candidate must be a person of integrity, be methodical, detailed-oriented with a strong work ethic.
Job Description DCE employs specialist contract staff to support the delivery of datacenters across EMEA. Augmented staff include Design Mangers, Civil and Structural Engineers, Architects, Mechanical and Electrical Engineers, EPMS and BAS and Telecoms Engineers. DCE now requires a skilled and experienced Fire Engineer Consultant to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in supporting the design, implementing fire safety strategies, and providing expert advice to ensure compliance with fire safety regulations and standards across EMEA. The successful candidate will support projects across EMEA and in various jurisdictions. The role is within our CSA group, and you will work alongside MSFT Architects and Design Mangers and review and comment on external consultant designs. The SME will ensure IFC packs are fit for purpose, accurate, sufficiently detailed and co- ordinated to allow GCs to tender and construct without delay and prevent GC claims.
Roles and Responsibilities

Fire Safety Design and Analysis:

Review and comment on architectural/engineer (AE) designs fire safety designs for new and existing buildings.
Review and comment on fire detection, alarm, and suppression systems tailored to specific project needs.

Risk Assessment and Mitigation:

Review and comment on AE external consultants reports on behalf of MSFT.

Compliance and Regulation:

Ensure projects comply with local, national, and international fire safety codes and standards.
Liaise with external consultants to secure necessary approvals.
Keep abreast of changes in fire safety legislation and standards.

Consultation and Advisory:

Provide expert advice to MSFT on fire safety best practices and compliance.
Work collaboratively with architects, builders, and project/design managers to integrate fire safety into overall project design.
Project Management
Oversee fire safety aspects of projects from conception through to completion.


Knowledge, Experience and Skills:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Fire Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, or a related field.
Professional certification (e.g., CEng, PE, CFPS) is highly desirable.
Minimum of (10) years of experience in fire engineering or a related field.
Strong knowledge of fire safety codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., NFPA, IBC, IFC) across EMEA
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
