We're seeking a highly motivated professional with extensive experience to join a friendly, dynamic Pharmacy team. As a Senior leader, you'll work closely with the team of Pharmacists and closely with the Chief Pharmacist to deliver exceptional pharmaceutical care to patients. Key Responsibilities: Pharmacy Leadership: Strategically lead, manage, and develop pharmaceutical care and clinical pharmacy services for inpatient and clinical areas. Clinical Information Systems: Achieve and maintain proficiency in relevant clinical information systems, including the Oncology/Haematology clinical information system (ARIA), and serve as the Pharmacy lead for operational and training matters related to these systems. Stay current with best practices and competency frameworks for clinical pharmacy services, including specialized areas like gastroenterology, surgery, oncology/haematology, and cardiology. Develop and review medication policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines, including those for Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT). Manage the safe and cost-effective introduction of new medications to the hospital formulary, providing expert advice and education to colleagues as needed. Expanded Access Programs: Assist in managing expanded access or compassionate use programs, serving as the primary point of contact for consultants and assisting with related submissions to the Drugs and Therapeutics Committee. Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs): Lead and oversee the development and maintenance of SOPs for procurement, storage, handling, and dispensing of medications, ensuring they are updated and implemented in accordance with local, national, and international practices and pharmacy law. Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) Collaboration: Work with colleagues in the MDT to optimize medication management workflows and contribute to the development of clinical guidelines. Deficiency Identification: Identify and address deficiencies in medication management systems and processes. Report and encourage the reporting of incidents/near misses to support risk management and quality improvement initiatives. Audit compliance: Audit compliance with good clinical practice standards related to medication use, such as labelling, storage, dispensing, and documentation. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs): Develop and compile reports on KPIs for the Pharmacy service and disseminate them to appropriate stakeholders for action. Assist in the timely provision and analysis of drug usage reports to Finance and Hospital leadership. Drug Budget Management: Provide expert support to Finance and Hospital leadership in managing the drugs budget through regular reporting, analysis, and horizon scanning. Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, hospital committees, and working groups as required. Act as a leader and role model within Pharmacy and the wider organization. Build effective partnerships within the organization and across the wider health system to develop services that meet the needs of patients and other stakeholders. Propose, lead, and manage innovation and technological improvements in the Pharmacy service, developing and presenting business cases for service development as appropriate. Coordinate service delivery with other Pharmacists and Pharmaceutical Technicians to ensure efficient and cohesive teamwork. Assist in the recruitment, development, mentoring, and motivation of staff to maximize performance and delivery of service objectives. Supervise and line manage staff within the Pharmacy service as appropriate and under the direction of the Chief Pharmacist. Support Pharmacy colleagues in enhancing their skills and assuming additional and advanced responsibilities. Ensure adherence to all relevant human resource policies and procedures. Manage performance of Pharmacy team members against measured and reported competency and performance metrics. Identify and address poor performance, providing appropriate management and support to achieve the required performance level. Delegate tasks appropriately to team members based on their skills and job roles. Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with academic and research partners. Plan and organise a risk-informed audit program aligned with the service goals of Pharmacy and the organisation. Undertake, coordinate, and publish Pharmacy practice-based research, adhering to relevant GCP standards. Facilitate and encourage others within the Pharmacy team to undertake audit and research and present and publish their findings. Carry out any other relevant duties as designated by the Chief Pharmacist, including deputising for the Chief Pharmacist as required. Support the Chief Pharmacist and Director of Pharmacy in developing and implementing the Pharmacy Transformation Strategy. Engage in continuous professional development appropriate to the role and in compliance with professional obligations. Participate in the Hospital's accreditation process. Qualifications: Be registered with the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland or be entitled to be so registered. Have at least 4 years satisfactory post-registration hospital experience. Possess the requisite specialised knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability and management ability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the role. Significant, proven post-registration hospital practice experience, with a broad clinical pharmacy experience and experience of line management. Evidence of ongoing Continuing Professional Development and role-specific learning. Excellent organisational and resource management skills. Excellent leadership, interpersonal and people management skills. Proven experience in change management and quality improvement initiatives. Formal management and leadership training or equivalent experience in management, training and supervision of Pharmacy staff. (desirable)Experience in working within an Aseptic Compounding Unit and/or haematology/oncology unit(s). (desirable)Previous experience of working within Cancer specialties at a senior level. (desirable)Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of all relevant aspects of the National Cancer Control Programme (NCCP).
