Consultant Paediatrician Cho 6.4 With A Special Interest In Neurodevelopment And Neurodisability
Ireland, Dublin, Dublin,
Modified September 28, 2024
Description
Who We Are
(CHI) is leading on the clinical and operational transformation of acute paediatric healthcare and consists of hospitals at Crumlin, Temple Street and Tallaght as well as an Urgent Care Centre at Connolly hospital in Blanchardstown.
Description
Purpose of the Role:
The purpose of the role is to provide medical assessment and supportive medical care for children with pervasive neurodevelopmental disorders CHO 7, which includes 11 CNDTs. Sixty per cent of the job will be community based and 40% within the CHI hospital network.
This new approach to care for children with disability will deliver on the vision of the National Model of Care for Paediatric Healthcare Services (2016), which advocates for the delivery of safe and appropriate care to paediatric patients as close to home as possible so that children and young people with urgent care needs get the right advice at the right place, first time.
The Model of Care for Paediatric Neurodisability proposes consultant paediatrician delivered support for disability services at local, regional and tertiary (hospital) levels to:
Optimise care that can be delivered in the community and reduce hospital attendances.
Advise and encourage a holistic approach to health within the CDNT.
Support children with complex medical needs and to keep up to date with the latest medical evidence for the ever expanding numbers of children diagnosed with rare genetic conditions.
Seek senior/specialist medical advice and guidance as appropriate.
The paediatrician will contribute to the management of complications commonly experienced by children with disability, including feeding and nutrition, gastrointestinal health and sleep. These issues frequently require combined understanding of the delicate interplay between medical, social, sensory and behavioural factors, all of which can be addressed by the paediatrician working with the CDNT.
The Consultant Paediatrician with a special interest in neurodevelopment/neurodisability role at CHI is to provide medical support and medical, diagnostic work up for children with neurodevelopmental disorders. The hospital setting provides access to specialist care and diagnostics which are unavailable in primary care and community settings. The paediatrician will also provide an important link for the CNDT to the acute services to facilitate excellent interagency communication. The Consultant’s presence within an acute service will allow input from the consultant who is familiar with the child in the community setting and well placed to contribute to management during an inpatient stay. Ready access to paediatrics in the community setting may reduce the frequency of acute unscheduled attendances to hospital.
Essential Criteria:
Registration as a specialist in the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council in Ireland in the specialty of General Paediatrics.
Two years certified postgraduate training in paediatric neurodisability/Community Child Health.
