Leopardstown Park Hospital is a registered centre for the provision of services to older people, it provides Respite, Rehabilitation, Day services and Long-Term Care, situated in South Co. Dublin. It was established in 1917 and continues to provide interdisciplinary services on a seven-day, twenty-four-hour basis.

It is currently registered for 120 long stay beds and 7 Sub-acute Rehab beds





 

The purpose of the Driver position at Leopardstown Park Hospital is to provide safe, reliable, and efficient transport services for residents, day service attendees, and other relevant stakeholders. This role supports the overall mission of the hospital by ensuring that transport needs are met in a manner that prioritises the comfort, dignity, and safety of all passengers while adhering to organisational policies and regulatory standards.



          Transport Services:

         Safely transport Day Centre clients to and from their homes.

         Transport residents to and from appointments or clinics as required.

Vehicle Maintenance:

         Ensure the vehicle is clean inside and out at all times.

         Perform daily checks and maintain a record of maintenance activities.

         Conduct monthly checks on the vehicle, complete required forms, and submit them to the Head Driver.

         Maintain and operate the digital tachograph (Digi Tacho) card.

Compliance and Reporting:

         Adhere to hospital policies on confidentiality both within and outside the workplace.

         Immediately report all incidents or accidents to the Resident Services Manager and complete the necessary forms.

Health and Safety:

         Review and remain updated with the Hospital's Health and Safety Manual.

         Attend in-service training provided by hospital departments or external agencies.

Professional Conduct:

         Represent the hospital professionally by maintaining a clean and tidy uniform.

         Act as an ambassador for the hospital at all times, upholding its values and fostering a positive image within the community and beyond.





Eligibility Criteria

 

Qualifications and/ or experience

 

Essential: Valid D-Class Driver's Licence Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Commitment to person-centred service delivery
Trustworthiness and strict adherence to confidentiality
Proficient in spoken and written English
Flexibility to adapt to other roles within Resident Services as needed
Willingness to undertake ongoing training and upskilling

Desirable:
Relevant experience in a similar role
Basic computer skills

 

 

 

Age

Age restrictions shall only apply to a candidate where he/she is not classified as a new entrant (within the meaning of the Public Service Superannuation Act, 2004).  A candidate who is not classified as a new entrant must be under 65 years of age.

Health

A candidate for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.

Each candidate for and any person holding the office must be of good character.

 Driving: Proficient in operating large vehicles, including minibuses. Communication: Clear and respectful interaction with residents, carers, and staff. Problem-Solving: Quick decision-making in unexpected situations. Organisational: Time management and accurate record-keeping. Technical: Familiarity with wheelchair lifts and basic vehicle maintenance. Customer Service: Compassionate and patient approach to supporting passengers.

Safety Awareness: Focus on road safety and passenger well-being. Teamwork: Collaborative approach with carers and staff. Adaptability: Flexibility in handling schedule changes or dynamic needs. Attention to Detail: Precision in securing wheelchairs and safety measures. Empathy: Understanding and patience with vulnerable passengers.

Regulations: Road safety laws, tachograph usage, and passenger safety compliance. Health & Safety: Manual handling, infection control, and emergency procedures. Vehicle Maintenance: Routine checks and proper use of accessibility equipment. Hospital Procedures: Transport schedules, resident care, and confidentiality standards. Sustainability: Awareness of eco-friendly driving and hospital green initiatives.

Remuneration

 

The Salary scale for the post is in accordance with Health Sector Consolidated Salary Scales

9 point scale ranging from point 1 €35,788 - point 9 €44,984 (Pro Rata)

 

Working Week

   

19.5 hours per week, rostered over 5 days out of 7 as required by LPH

 

Annual Leave

 

23 days per annum (pro-rata for part-time employment), subject to management approval and hospital service needs.
