Job DescriptionAbout the site:This role is based at our Cork, Ireland API site.Operating for over 40 years, ThermoFisher Scientific, Cork is proud to manufacture and supply Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) to our customers for use in clinical trials and approved medicines for commercial supply - medicines to treat Cancer, Parkinson’s Disease, Depression, HIV, Congestive Heart Failure, Diabetes and Respiratory diseases, along with raw material for consumer healthcare products!Job Summary:As a Crystallisation Scientist in our Materials Science team you will function as a key member of the Process Development Service Team. You’ll be responsible for providing provide technical support for the development and manufacturing of new and existing processes related to API particle formation processes, including crystallisation, isolation and drying.This will include the provision of physical properties measurement data using complex testing methodologies such as X-Ray Powder Diffraction, Microscopy, Particle Sizing etc. This will require the development of new or existing methods and their subsequent validation/qualification and transfer to the clients. You’ll be able to work as part of a team, across functions and on your own initiative and be able to review current practices with the target of using Practical Process Improvements (PPI) to identify improvements and cost saving to the business.What will you do?• Provide technical expertise and support for crystallisation and solid-state testing for the introduction of new products to the Cork site, including method development, validation/qualification and transfer of methods to clients as required.• Provide crystallisation expertise within the Materials Science team, including technical leadership and consultation.• Take ownership for the design, interpretation and reporting of non-routine material characterisation data to the team and other key stakeholders• Work with other teams to support the transfer of manufacturing processes in and out of the site• Communicate regularly with the clients, providing updates on projects progress, hosting clients visits, addressing technical queries and delivering client project requirements to the defined timelines.• Develop/expand scientific, technical knowledge by reading the peer reviewed scientific literature, attending scientific conferences and via relevant training.• Deliver projects in the required timeframe and ensure that the site’s technical, quality and safety metrics are all achieved.• Participate in Risk Assessment processes for changes related to API processes affecting particle propertiesEducation / Experience Required:• Relevant qualification such as BSc; Masters or PhD in crystallisation, pharmaceutical materials science, chemistry or other relevant field with significant experience in industry or academia.• Experience in physical properties method development and validation.• Significant experience with X-Ray Powder Diffraction, Microscopy, Particle Size Analysis, Surface Properties TestingKnowledge, Skills, Abilities:• Proven ability to think critically and innovatively combined with willingness to challenge.• You will have great organizational skills and proven ability of troubleshooting to rapidly respond to technical challenges.
