Applications are invited for a temporary post of a UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 2 within UCD School of Veterinary Medicine. The All Island of Ireland Surveillance of Zoonotic Pathogens (ALLIES-Z-PATH) project, funded by The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, aims to investigate emerging and re-emerging pathogens considered to be of most significance to public health. ALLIES-Z-PATH will support capacity building steps to strengthen animal and environmental surveillance systems across the Island of Ireland. The postdoctoral research fellow will have the opportunity to work with collaborators across Ireland and the UK, focusing on molecular and sequencing work, development of flavivirus serology assays, and development of a platform for field-based pathogen surveillance. The position requires advanced skills in developing molecular assays, primer design, nanopore sequencing, bioinformatics, cell culture, viral propagation (within a BSL3 high containment facility), plasmid preparation, serology, and immunoimaging. The field component demands the ability to adapt molecular techniques for use outside the lab, requiring both innovation and practical problem-solving.
