We have a new opportunity for a Sustainability Lead to work with a leading civil engineering contractor in Munster. The successful person will be responsible for leading and implementing sustainability strategies and initiatives across our client’s projects and operations in Munster. This position will be primarily based in their Cork office, but will involve occasional travel.
Key Responsibilities:
Drive the delivery of the sustainability strategy in collaboration with colleagues across the business and embed it throughout the organization. Advance sustainability commitments such as carbon, biodiversity, and circular economy.
Manage the delivery of specific programmes, projects, and initiatives to help achieve the targets and goals set out in the sustainability strategy.
Work closely with stakeholders across the business by giving support and guidance on all aspects of sustainability in particular: net zero, biodiversity, circular economy and supply chain management to help achieve targets.
Engage with suppliers, vendors, and contractors, relating to environmental and sustainability performance and improvements.
Monitor and share guidance on emerging sustainability-related legislation, policy and industry best practices and trends. Advise on potential risks associated with emerging legislation and recommend solutions.
Compile monthly and annual sustainability reports documenting the Contractor’s proactive support of Strategic Sustainability Goals including Governance of Sustainability, Green House Gases (GHG) Measurement and Reduction, Habitat Protection and Biodiversity, Waste Management and Circular Economy, Procurement, Climate Risk, Sustainability Upskilling and Capacity Building.
The implementation and maintenance of the EMS.
Development of site-specific Environmental Management Plans and Waste Management Plans.
Assessment of all environmental risks, aspects and impacts.
Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory and other environmental requirements.
Chair environmental and sustainability performance review meetings with clients.
Requirements:
3rd Level Qualification in environmental management or related degree.
Full Driver’s License.
Experience in environmental sustainability is essential.
Outstanding verbal and written communication and presentation skills and tact when dealing with confidential/sensitive information.
Ability to work as an independent self-starter and manage and prioritise multiple tasks and projects.
High level of professionalism and confidence to work effectively with colleagues from all levels of the company.
Familiarity with sustainability reporting standards and ratings, e.g. CDP, TCFD.
Demonstrable understanding and knowledge of key sustainability issues (current and emerging) such as carbon management and climate change policy, biodiversity, circular economy and supply chain.
